My Rating: 4.5/5

I've been waiting for this series to really grab me and this was the one. I really got invested in the storyline and the world. Especially during the final battle scenes and seeing how the family reunion is changing different elements of the faith of hope. I also think the idea that hope is a religion makes for an interesting aspect of the story. I can't wait to continue the series and see where it goes.

Title: Before the Dawn Burns Us

Artist/Colourist: Greg Tocchini and Dave McCraig
Series: Low Series (Vol. 2)
Pages: 104
Publisher: Image Comics
Year Published: 2015
Format: Paperback (Library Copy)

"Will Stel Caine rise from the depths to become the first human in millennia to set her foot on the surface of the Earth? Who is the relentless Minister of Thought on a quest to put an end to Stel's attempt to restore the light to a dying world?"

My Rating: 4/5

This volume was far easier to follow. There were still twists and turns but due to a better understanding of the dynamic of the story, I was able to follow it better. I will say that this is a series that dumps you in headfirst and it is up to you to sort out what the hell is going on. If that is something you enjoy, you'll likely enjoy this. If it's something you find difficult, I would recommend reading the first two volumes and then deciding where to go with your reading. I really enjoyed this one. It showed other worlds, but also explained the reason that Stel is so hopeful. It helps the reader understand what really brought her to be so hopeful.
I plan on continuing the series for now and seeing where it takes us.

Thanks for reading,

Sidny

My Rating: 3/5

I don't know how I feel about this graphic novel. I couldn't help but be confused by some of the premisses. I enjoyed the art but at times without the distinct lines it was difficult to see what was where, especially during action scenes. I'm unsure how I feel about the series so far but I plan to continue the series to see where it goes at this point.

It's up to Audrey Rose and Thomas to piece together the gruesome investigation as even more passengers die before reaching their destination. But with the clues to th next victim pointing to someone she loves, can Audrey Rose unravel the mystery before the killer's horrifying finale?"

My Rating: 4/5

This was a great installment in the series. If you have not read Stalking Jack the Ripper (this will contain spoilers for the other books in the series). I loved the change of characters and as always the change of setting. The mystery was good, but a little more predictable than I expected. I will say the real draw of this book was to see where the characters relationships would turn out. The start of the murders was interesting and very graphic (similar to the other two novels in that sense). Can't wait to finish the series this fall and find where our characters end off.

My Rating: 5/5

This is my third or fourth time rereading this novella collection and every time that I start it I think it can't be as good as I remember. But it always is. Aveyard is able to conjure such enormous feelings for characters who appear briefly in the series itself. I think that this novella collection does an amazing job of bringing different perspectives to the series. It helps us understand why certain groups of people act the way they do.

My Rating: 4.25/5

I've been eating up these audiobooks as I am waiting for the anticipated conclusion that will come out in September, but at this rate, I will be finished the rest of the books far before I get to read that one. I cannot recommend these audiobooks enough. I think that the narrator does a wonderful job of capturing the characters and who they truly are. I also think that her reading of the books helps add to the suspense of the story overall. I liked the writing, the only thing that I found to be a little over the top this time was the continual reminder that we are in a castle with potentially haunted woods. I understood the first time I was told but then it was repeated quite a few times. I can see that the author was really trying to drive home how dangerous it was but it got to be a little over the top. I can't wait to continue the series and see where the author takes us.
