Spoiler: The Goddess Hunt by Aimee Carter

This book was more than I anticipated. I didn’t think there was very much that Aimee Carter could convey in 69 short pages. But she did more than enough. I think this book serves its purpose very well. We learn that the gods aren’t the best at making decisions. Just like us, sometimes they screw up. I think the setting was important and was hoping to see more of it, but most important were the characters so let’s get to it.

♥Characters♥
♥Kate: She’s still a love struck newly wed. And I think that at the beginning of this novel she thinks that the gods can do no wrong. That they are the good guys, but as the book progresses and she meets Pollux and Castor she realizes that sometimes they mess up. And there choices aren’t ones that she will always agree with. She is so sympathetic to the twins that it broke my heart to watch her struggle knowing that the reason they are still on the run is partially her husbands fault.
♥James: I’m not really rooting for him. I still like Henry better. He doesn’t really have a chance I wouldn’t think. I mean he’s sweet and everything but still I mean Henry is so… I don’t even know how to put him into words (I may have developed a crush on a fictional character).
♥Pollux: I can’t imagine having to go through life with a twin who you love more than yourself and finding out that you get to live forever but when he dies you can never see him again. He’ll just be gone. Poof. I don’t question that he broke him out of the Underworld. I feel bad that they are being chased but I think that the deal went sour mainly because of Walter, not Henry.
♥Castor: Caring and compassionate, he seems able to control his brothers emotions with a look. If I were the gods I would think that was a good thing and keep him around. Let them split the immortality. Why not. I was so ecstatic when he wasn’t taken to the Underworld.
♥Henry: The fact that he didn’t let his pride get in the way of his relationship with Kate was something that really caught my attention. It would have been so simple for him just to continue his deal with Walter and not care what Kate would think but he did. And that’s why I’m still rooting for this guy. Compassion.

♥Moments to Remember♥
♥Pg. 27
“Now is not the time to get into a pissing contest. Her very existence could be at risk if you do not tell me where she is-“

♥Final Line: “And if Walter wanted to smite me for it, then bring it on.”

Thanks for reading,

Book Review: The Fault In Our Stars by John Green

Title: The Fault In Our Stars
Author: John Green
Series/Novel: Novel
Genre: Young Adult, Romance
Pages: 313
Publisher: Dutton Books
Year Published: 2012
First Line: “Late in the winter of my seventeenth year, my mother decided I was depressed, presumably because I rarely left the house, spent quite a lot of time in bed, read the same book over Andover, ate infrequently, and devoted quite a bit of my abundant free time to thinking about death.”

“Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten.
Insightful, bold, irreverent, and raw. The Fault In Our Stars brilliantly explores the funny, thrilling and tragic business of being alive and in love.”

My Rating: 4/5

First off a huge apology for not writing any of these in a while. It’s been a crazy past few months so, this is the first one in over a month.
Now down to the point, the book. This book was brought to me by my sister who begged me to read it. I agreed, because hello John Green, you sir are amazing! And I’ve seen so many things about this book recently. And may I say that it is a keeper.
This book explores what it is to live, and to want more from life. The characters are unusual but they capture your heart. Although I will admit that till the end of this book I would have rated this book a 3.5. It was ok as far as cancer books I’ve read but by the end, I realized it was more than just a cancer book.
This book explores far more than I can explain. Love, death, life, and youth. The idea of what it is to cease to exist. It’s a scary thing for young people to think about but something that caught my eye. John Green that was a risky move, one that certainly paid off with me.

Spoiler: The Fault In Our Stars by John Green

As explained above, it’s been a while but I’m so happy to be back. This book took a while to read, but was well worth the time. It made me question many things. What it is to be terminal mostly. There is a lot to think about as a young person. But mainly it made me think that I should explore this world while I’m still on it. The characters in this book captured my heart and as things in this book started to develop so did my feelings for the characters.
Speaking of which….
♥Characters♥
♥Hazel: In the beginning of the book I remember reading that Hazel’s parents think she’s depressed and for a while there I was with them. But then I realized that Hazel just realizes something that most people never will. That we are all just terminal. We have a limited time on earth, and because of her cancer she has less time then the most of us. So she had to figure it out sooner. She fell for Augustus so easily that it kind of bothered me but in the end I believe what they had was true love. Especially when you stick with someone through everything the way they did.
♥Augustus:  He was possibly more in love with Hazel than she was with him. I don’t know if I’m supposed to measure true love, but I did so there! He used his wish for her even though he knew he had cancer, gave up his treatment and managed to get a selfish prick of an author to read her eulogy, not exactly a textbook romance. But it felt more realistic that way. Because in life there are few if any textbook romances. I cried when he died, I knew it was gonna happen but a girl can dream right?
♥Isaac: I feel bad that he got dumped by his girlfriend and all, but seriously he gets to live a normal life span at least. Maybe blind, but still live it. He was a good friend to Gus and the eulogy he wrote and read with Hazel was perfect. To the point that I hope one of my friends will do the same. Wow that was more depressing than intended, but maybe someone else will understand me. Anyone out there?
♥Peter Van Houten: He is the main reason people don’t drink. They don’t want to turn into him. He’s a mean drunk, probably just thinking he’s being honest. In the end he sort of comes around. The saddest thing about this man is the fact that his daughter died so young. That broke my heart.

♥Moments to Remember♥
♥Pg. 17
“’You’re like a millennial Natalie Portman. Like V for Vendetta Natalie Portman.
‘Never seen it,’ I said.
‘Really?’ he asked. ‘Pixie-haired gorgeous girl dislikes authority and can’t help but fall for a boy she knows is trouble. It’s your autobiography, so far as I can tell.’
His every syllable flirt. Honestly, he kind of turned me on. I didn’t even know the guys could turn me on- not, like, in real life.”

♥Pg. 24
“I told Augustus the broad outline of my miracle diagnosed with Stage IV thyroid cancer when I was thirteen. (I didn’t tell him that the diagnosis came three months after I got my first period. Like: Congratulations! You’re a woman. Now die.) It was, we were told, incurable.”

♥Pg. 118
“’God,’ he said. ‘I should’ve just paid for it myself. Should’ve just taken you straight from the Funky Bones to Amsterdam.’
‘But then I would’ve had a probably fatal episode of deoxygenation in Amsterdam, and my body would have been shipped home in the cargo hold of an airplane,’ I said.
‘Well, yeah,’ he said. ‘But before that, my grand romantic gesture would have gotten me laid.’”

♥Pg. 124
“Desperately Lonely Swing Set Needs Loving Home
One swing set, well worn but structurally sound, seeks new home. Make memories with your kid or kids so that someday he or she or they will look into the backyard and feel the ache of sentimentality as desperately as I did this afternoon. It’s all fragile and fleeting, dear reader, but with this swing set, your child(ren) will be introduced to the ups and downs of humans life gently and safely, and may also learn the most important lesson of all: No matter how hard you kick, no matter how high you get, you can’t go all the way around.”

♥Pg. 202
“’That’s what we should do, Hazel Grace: We should team up and be this disabled vigilante duo roaring through the world, righting wrongs, defending the weak, protecting the endangered.’
Although it was his dream and not mine, I indulged it. He’d indulged mine, after all. ‘Our fearlessness shall be our secret weapon.’ I said.
‘The tales of our exploits will survive as long as the human voice itself.’ he said.
‘And after that, when the robots recall the human absurdities of sacrifice and compassion, they will remember us.’
‘They will robot-laugh at our courageous folly,’ he said. ‘But something in their iron robot hearts with yearn to have lived and died as we did: on the hero’s errand.’”

♥Pg.  310
“I’m a good person but a shitty writer. You’re a shitty person but a good writer. We’d make a good team.”

♥Final Line: “I do.”

Book Review: Fifty Shades of Grey by EL James

Title: Fifty Shades of Grey
Author: EL James
Series: Fifty Shades (Book #1)
Genre: Romance, Adult Fiction
Pages: 514
Publisher: Vintage Books
Year Published: 2011
First Line: “I scowl with frustration at myself in the mirror.”

“When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and despite his enigmatic reserve, finds sheis desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too- but on his own terms.
Shocked yet thrilled by Grey’s singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success- his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family- Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a daring, passionately physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey’s secrets and explores her own dark desires.”

My Rating: 4.5/5

So my roommate convinced me to read this book and I’ll admit I was really sceptical of it. It just didn’t seem like something I would enjoy because I’m not a huge fan of romance books, but it definitely caught me by surprise.  I think that this book, while it is R-rated it isn’t just a sex book. It tells the story of Christian Grey who has a surprising amount of his depth in his life. Hidden pasts and the mystery of what they could be. I loved that part of this book. I want to know what caused the characters to become who they are. And I’ll admit the sex parts were good too. Ok not just good … and that is all. I think that this book is very adult so if you’re under 16 or incredibly shy about these things you probably shouldn’t read this or wouldn’t enjoy it as much. I give a ton of credit to EL James for making such a relatable main character. Look at me being able to type this book review without using any sexual terms or curse words. *bows to an imaginary audience* thank you, thank you!
THANK YOU EL JAMES FOR WRITING A NEW KIND OF ROMANCE NOVEL THAT GRABS THE READERS ATTENTION IMMDEDIATLEY.

Spoiler: Fifty Shades of Grey by EL James

I was shocked how much I like this book. I’m not usually a person who enjoys smutty things, but this one just caught me up. I loved that this book wasn’t just about sex, it had the mystery of what made Christian Grey himself and while we never do find out. I feel like I feel for Christian as Ana did. It just seemed like he was an intoxicating presence. I can’t wait to read more about him. I liked that he had so many sides it made the book far more interesting.
♥Characters♥
♥Ana: I think that she is one of the most relatable characters. She’s a girl who is in love with reading (thank God!) and she is clumsy two personality traits that caught my eye of the hope. I think that EL James did a great job of making the reader feel like Ana or like they knew her extremely well. I loved that she wasn’t afraid to give up when her and Christian were discussing something. That while she tried to be submissive she was still herself. I loved that courage. And in the end when she left him I was both in shock and saying you go girl. I think that she’d go back to him without a problem, but the fact that he couldn’t love her back is honestly what did it to her. Rejection is a tough thing to process.

♥Christian: Ok. Super hot, handsome, rich, sexual and mysterious. I can’t imagine turning him down. He’s just too much. But then there is the whole dom/sub thing that was unusual. I have heard of these things but never in such detail. And you can’t help but wonder what would make someone think that that was the only acceptable way to love or be loved. And the touching rule didn’t make much sense to me at all. I can’t wait to find out what he does now without Ana will he just find another Sub or will he decide to go after her. Ahhh, I wanna know.

♥Kate: We all have that best friend who only has our best intentions in mind. I think that Kate does a good job of fulfilling this especially when she attempts to kick out Christian when Ana is in tears. I have a friend like that as well, and I’m so grateful for her.

♥Elliot: So much different than Christian why didn’t Mrs. Robinson choose him?

♥Mrs. Robinson: I think along the same way as Ana that she took advantage of a young boy who had no one else who seemed to care about him and who had a hard life. I can’t wait to “meet” her though. I’m assuming we’ll get to. At least I hope so.

♥Jose: He lost Ana all by himself. He shouldn’t have pushed her especially drunk, sick her. That’s just rude and oh so wrong.

♥Mr. Taylor: I wonder how well he knows Christian Grey. To deal with all his Subs and just do as he’s told you have to wonder how that happened.

♥Moments to Remember: ♥
♥Pg. 35
“’Anastasia Rose Steele. You like him! I’ve never seen or heard you so…so... affected by anyone You’re actually blushing.
‘Oh, Kate, you know I blush all the time. It’s an occupational hazard with me. Don’t be ridiculous,’ I snap.”

♥Pg. 51
“I have never been on the receiving end of rejection. Okay… so I was always one of the last to be picked for basketball or volleyball, but I understood that- running and doing something else at the same time like bouncing or throwing a ball is not my thing. I am a serious liability in any sporting field.”

♥Pg. 214
“Making a supreme effort not to bit my lip, I move forward, aware that I, Anastasia Steele of Clumsyville, am in high stilettos.”

♥Final Line♥ “I curl up, desperately clutching the flat foil balloon and Taylor’s handkerchief, and surrender myself to my grief.”

Thanks so much for reading,

Thought I would let you know...

Hey guys, it's almost Friday! YAY!
So I thought I would mention that the next book that I'm reviewing is kind of a controversial one for me. I usually review YA books, but Fifty Shades of Grade is very obviously an adult book and so there will be an adult review and spoiler to match. I hope that no one underage reads it but really there is nothing I can do make sure that someone underage will read. Just read on with caution. This book is very sexual, so expect that and possibly adult language. I'm only human :)

Thanks for reading guys,
Hope to have the review for you sometime next week.
Love,
Sidny xoxo

Kate is sure he’s crazy- until she sees him bring a girl back from the dead. Now saving her mother seems crazily possible. If she succeeds, she’ll become Henry’s future bride, and a goddess.
If she fails…”

My Rating: 5/5

I can’t keep this inside. I loved this book. It was excellent and even more than I hoped it to be. It included an amazing group of characters, suspense, romance and so many amazing themes. When I was younger I had read Percy Jackson and fallen in love with the idea of Greek Mythology taking place in the present and this book is like Percy Jackson but for the next generation. At least that’s how I would describe it to fellow readers. I loved this book so much that half way through it I went online and ordered the next book in the series. Should be here the 10th of April and I can hardly wait to pick it up and start reading it. I think that this book was a great one for young adults because of how it reminds us to use our imagination. The detail in this book was so incredible that I was often sitting in my room reading it, and just yelling at the characters (that’s a good thing for me) I don’t know if that makes sense. Anyone out there that can back me up? I hope so! Not that crazy, I swear. I would suggest this book to anyone looking for suspense, romance mixed with some mythology. Please check it out and tell me what you think.
THANK YOU AIMEE CARTER FOR REMINDING ME WHAT I LOVE ABOUT MYTHOLOGY AND THE OLYMPIONS!

Spoiler: The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter

Hey guys, happy Saturday! This spoiler is all about The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter. A truly amazing read. I think that this book helped me fall in love with my imagination again. For a while I’d been having trouble reading because my brain was just so tired by the end of the day but this book I could hardly put down. I had it with me at every lunch and coffee break at work and read it as soon as I got home. I can’t wait to see what Aimee Carter has in store for us as readers in the next book. One thing I think is really important to mention is the setting. Although we don’t spend a lot of time in Eden itself (well because it doesn’t actually exists, surprise right?) We do spend a lot of time in Eden Manor. In my mind I imagine it like a castle-ish house with so many rooms that you could easily get lost in. I was hoping to hear more about the libraries in this place, but maybe in the next book. That way my book nerd personality can have that to fantasize about continually.

♥Characters♥
♥Kate: At first I had trouble with this name simply because of my sister and how obsessed she is with Percy Jackson and myths right now, but after a few chapters it was easy to forget about and put this character in the spotlight regardless of her name. I feel like this character has been through so much in her life and we only get to glimpse the end of it, but she remains strong for her mother no matter what. I was so happy that she finally fell in love with Henry I was sitting her yelling at them just to get married already because they were so obviously in love with each other. I did think that in the end we all got shocked with her when we found out that the gods and goddesses were the workers around the manor, I wonder how that will play out in the second book, and especially when she got her mother back. I cried. I won’t lie to you. I hope that she has a good summer but doesn’t forget about her fantastic husband. So many more things I could say but then this would just get into too much of a rant.
♥Henry: Ok so I fell in love with him right away. I couldn’t help myself. He was just so hurt from Persephone that I wanted to fix him and make him better and yeah Kate did just that. I think it must have been hard for him to marry Persephone’s sister though. Wouldn’t that be weird? But I guess they call each other brothers and sisters anyway. I felt awful when he almost lost Kate because not only would he fade but he would have lost the only person who has ever said that they loved him. Speaking of which, did anyone else’s heart break in that moment? Mine cracked.
♥Diana: I can’t imagine lying to your daughter that way, but really what choice did she have. I do wonder what James meant when he said that they’re relationship would change? Why? Because she lost her mortal body, or because Kate is now an immortal as well? Thoughts?
♥Ava: Although she is vain, and once we found out she was a goddess easily enough to identify as Aphrodite, she was a true friend to Kate through all of this. I think that she will still be one of her closest friends through this whole series. At least I hope so.
♥James: I feel bad for him being caught in the friendzone but why would he let himself fall for someone he could never have? It must be that male thing, wanting what they can’t have. I hope he finds happiness though. He deserves it.
♥Calliope: Just before she tried killing Kate I thought it might be her, but the author definitely had me convinced that it couldn’t be her and wham there she was, the jealous, evil, beepedy beep beep that almost ruined everything. Grrr… feel my reader wrath.

♥Moments to Remember♥
♥Pg. 25
“Was that what this was about? She wanted to find me a boyfriend so Dylan would leave me alone? ‘I don’t date.’
Ava’s mouth dropped open. ‘Really?’
‘Really.’”

♥Pg. 91
“’I don’t wear dresses,’ I said through a clenched jaw. ‘Ever.’”

♥Pg. 143
“’Nice to meet you, too,’ I said. ‘Ava talked about you a lot.’
‘I do not,’ protested Ava. She looked at Theo and frowned. ‘I don’t.’
‘She does,’ I said, and Theo grinned.”

♥Pg.192
“’Don’t take this the wrong way, but since it’s Christmas and all.. would you stay with me tonight?’
His eyes widened a fraction of an inch, and I quickly shook my head, my cheeks flushing with embarrassment.
‘Not like that. You’ve got to earn that and it costs more than just a picture, y’know.’ My weak attempt at a joke managed to break the tension enough to get him to crack an apologetic smile. ‘But could you just stay… for tonight?’”

♥Pg. 258
“He held up the deck of cards. ‘Shall we? I hear the sixth time is the charm.’
I rolled my eyes. ‘Maybe you’ll win when hell freezes over.’
He raised an eyebrow. ‘That could easily be arranged.’”

♥Pg. 291
“’I know it’s the end,’ I said, placing a hand on the raised dirt. ‘I’ve known that for a long time.’
‘No, it’s not,’ said James, moving to stand beside me. ‘It’s the beginning.’”

♥Last Line: “I may not have planned on living forever, but now that I was, Iwas going to make the most of every moment.”

My Rating:  3/5

This book takes place three years after the first book is based. I found that it was a hard one to rate because it wasn’t all I thought it would be. There was suspense but I was prepared for all of it. I just sat there reading and waiting for what I expected to happen to really happen. All in all not one of VC Andrews best works. It was obvious that this is one that someone else helped her finish and I just didn’t find it interesting. The best part of this book for me was seeing the main character grow into who she was going to be. The way we all do eventually.
THANK YOU VC ANDREWS FOR A BRAVEHEARTED YOUNG WOMAN FIGHTING HER WAY THROUGH THE WORLD OF THE RICH AND SPOILED!

Spoiler: Cloudburst by VC Andrews

As I mentioned above this book wasn’t one I really enjoyed I think that this book was written because it was in demand but it just didn’t line up with the first one in terms of characters. As well having three years disappearing in between made it a difficult read for certain. We as readers have no idea what happened in that three year time. Anything may have. I also felt that I didn’t know Sasha very well anymore and that usually just makes me shut a book and walk away. Anyways I’ll move on to…
Characters:
♥Sasha: I think that Sasha grew up a lot from when we left her in the first book and I’m extremely happy that she’s finding who she is and over coming so much adversity but still. I feel like she was a little girl just a few minutes ago and now she’s getting all in with a movie stars son. My favourite part about her character is the way that she has the male population under her little finger.
♥Ryder:  I think that he was a really troubled boy who should have taken his therapy more seriously. It was really to bad that he died because him and Sasha seemed evenly matched. But they hadn’t really known each other that long. It was the kind of teenage relationship that started going so fast.
♥Donald: Who didn’t see him coming? The inappropriate comments he made and his behaviour was pretty obvious to me. I hope that he didn’t have a good life in the end though. Piece of dirt. And no that’s not the first word that came to my mind but I’m trying hard to keep my swearing words in my mind.
♥Kiera: I never thought that she would change how she acted. She is a jealous, spoiled rich girl. I’m happy that some consequences have found her in college though. It’s about time.
♥Jordan: I hope that she finds happiness after all she’s lost.

♥Moments to Remember♥
♥Pg. 100
“’You are a tough nut to crack,’ he said, turning back to me.
‘You’re not exactly soft yogurt.’”
Final Line: “After all, wasn’t that what we all dreamed we would find?”

Thanks for reading,
