Title: The Goddess Inheritance
Author: Aimee Carter
Series/Novel: Goddess Test (Book #3)
Genre: Fantasy, Mythology, Romance, Young Adult
Pages: 283
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Year Published: 2013
First Line: “Throughout his eternal life, Walter had witnessed countless summers, but never one as endless as this.”

“Love or life
 Henry or their child
The end of her family or the end of the world.
Kate must choose.
During nine months of captivity, Kate Winters has survived a jealous goddess, a vengeful Titan and a pregnancy she never asked for. Now the Queen of the Gods wants her unborn child, and Kate can’t stop her- until Cronus offers a deal.
In exchange for her loyalty and devotion, the King of the Titans will spare humanity and let Kate keep her child. Yet even if Kate agrees, he’ll destroy Henry, her mother and the rest of council. And if she refuses, Cronus will tear the world apart until every last god and mortal is dead.
With the fate of everyone she loves resting on her shoulders, Kate must do the impossible: find a way to defeat the most powerful being in existence, even if it costs her everything.
Even if it costs her eternity.”

My Rating: 3.5/5

This latest instalment in the Goddess Test series fallows Kate through becoming a woman, a war and many other life lessons. So many that it’s hard to believe it’s compacted into just over 280 pages. I think that this book was ok for me, but it wasn’t great. I thought that there would be so much more too it and it just kind of left me lacking. As well, this book was focused to much on Kate, who has changed as a character throughout the series. I understand that it is from Kate’s perspective, but after the past novel about some of the other gods and goddesses I was hoping that we would get a little more insight into their lives. This book did capture the ideas of good and evil in an interesting matter.
I would recommend this series to a younger group of teenagers probably around the ages of 16. It was just slightly to naïve for my taste.
THANK YOU AIMEE CARTER FOR SHOWING HOW GOOD AND EVIL NOT ONLY COLLIDE BUT COMBINE!

Thanks for reading,

Spoiler: The Goddess Inheritance by Aimee Carter

This book focuses on what happens after Kate is kidnapped from Eden and the after events. These include: motherhood, a war, loss and the collision of good and evil.
This book let me down, honestly. I expected it to be so much more and it just left me wanting more. I don’t even know if I mean more as in the idea of wanting more at the end or rather just more from the characters throughout. The characters in this book changed in ways I never anticipated, or really wanted.
But here’s a happy thought, we get to see some more of Olympus in this book and from the sounds of it, it is incredibly beautiful. Somewhere we should all wanna be. So let’s go pass some tests guys.

♥Characters♥
♥Kate: Kate has really changed over the series, and not in a way that I enjoy. I think that the version of Kate in this book is really disappointing. One minute she’s standing up for what she believes and when she gets told no, she throws a tantrum like a 3 year old. It’s frustrating to read. Half of the time I was reading this book I was telling her to grow up and figure out what her life’s about. Crying wasn’t going to help anything. In the end, Kate really didn’t do all that much to help the war. And if you think about it, the war happened because of her. I hope that she gets over herself eventually and thinks about the big picture more. My main reason for saying this is when she talks to Walter about the lose of Ava she still has to bring up herself. Get over it, you’re friend just died! Urgh.
♥Ava: I don’t think that Ava would have betrayed Kate if Walter hadn’t made her do it. She was doing what she believed was right. She didn’t even really do that much to hinder Kate, yes she assisted Calliope in kidnapping, but Ava made sure that Milo was safe. I didn’t agree with how she did it, but she still did. In the end, I wasn’t really that hurt when Ava died. Mainly because the idea that she was evil was drilled into my head every other chapter. In the end though, Ava paid the ultimate sacrifice for those she loved. A truly brave thing to do.
♥Calliope: So this evil little Witch is dead. Finally. Why couldn’t Nicholas just make a weapon to kill a god/ goddess previously when Calliope started the problem? Hello?! I wasn’t really surprised with her taking Henry. I was surprised how crazy she got with Milo at the end, but I suppose she just wanted a real family.
♥Cronus: Someone’s gonna be mad at me for saying this, but I think that Kate could have worked with him and changed him. Especially if she didn’t have a son in the moment. I hope that she keeps up her promise to visit him. He needs to be shown warmth and affection.
♥Rhea: I think she is someone I would like to learn more about. She seems wise and ancient in a way that the gods aren’t. I was fascinated by how she portrayed herself to humans.
♥Henry: You are kinda sexist aren’t you buddy? Women are strong people and shouldn’t be messed with. If your wife wanted to fight you should have let her from the start. I just found in this book, that Henry wasn’t as romantic, rather than protecting Kate he just bossed her around. No thank you!
♥Walter: I think what has happened in his family will truly make him rethink how he treats his family members. One would hope so anyways.
♥James: This guy though. He’s the strongest out of them all. Even though he’s a trickster. I still like him, I’d like him better if he found his own woman instead of hitting on Kate all the time, but hey.

♥Moments to Remember♥
♥Pg. 100
“’Not exactly the best time to stop and give directions, is it?’ I said as he rejoined us. James shrugged.
‘Not exactly the best time to gather enough power to wipe out half of Africa either,’ he said, looking pointedly at Henry. They glared at each other. ‘Besides, giving directions is what I do. Among other things.’
 ‘Like rob banks,’ said Henry.
‘That was once.’ James shook his head…”

♥Pg. 191
“’You’re not the girl I met in Eden. She didn’t break down into tears every time something didn’t go her way.’
‘I’m not-‘ I started, but then another tear rolled down my face. ‘My family’s gone. No one’s letting me help, and every time I try, I screw things up even worse.’
He threaded his fingers through mine. ‘Since when did you ever need anyone’s permission?’”

♥Final Line: “Always.”

Book Review: The Goddess Legacy by Aimee Carter

Title: The Goddess Legacy
Author: Aimee Carter
Series: Goddess Test (Book #2.5)
Genre: Fantasy, Mythology, Young Adult, Fantasy
Pages: 395
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Year Published: 2012
First Line: “In all the years I’d existed, I’d never expected to be free.”

“Calliope/Hera represented constancy and yet had a husband who never matched her faithfulness…
Ava/Aphrodite was the goddess of love and yet commitment was a totally different deal…

James/Hermes loved to make trouble for others- but never knew true loss before…
Henry/Hades’s solitary existence had grown to wearisome to continue, but meeting Kate Winter’s gave him a new hope…”

My Rating: 5/5

It’s been a long time coming but here it is. A review! And for a fantastic book as well. This book really blew me out of the water. This book follows short parts of other characters lives. And it did an incredible job on perspective. I didn’t expect to have such a large connection with the characters and to grow attached to the characters I once thought to be crazy. And now I understand a lot more about why the characters act the way they do. I did enjoy the fact that it lead to so many different perspectives, I’d have to say that this is one of my favourite books in this series yet. It really helped with my curiosity. Well not all of it but an impressive amount. Can’t wait to read the final book in the series.
THANK YOU AIMEE CARTER FOR GOING SO IN DEPTH WITH YOU CHARACTERS!

Spoiler: The Goddess Legacy by Aimee Carter

This was my favourite book in this series. So there’s how I feel about it. I’m sure someone will manage to poke holes in it. I think that this book brought a lot to the Goddess Test. I felt more in tune with the characters. I’m not saying that I agree with everything all the characters do, but at least I understood what had happened in their lives to make them view things a certain way. I also have found that when used right this kind of novella helps readers understand so many things.

♥Characters♥
♥Calliope: I felt awful when I found out about her life, but there’s not much you can do when someone doesn’t love you in return you just have to move on. It’s really to bad that she chose to move on with the wrong guy. Man Walter is just a player. I knew that he had many affairs and everything, but I never would have thought he would have made Calliope stay through it all. And after he threw Hephaestus of Olympus? That would have been it. I would have been done. Without a doubt. This doesn’t mean it’s ok what she did to those 11 girls and tried to Kate, but it explains a lot.
♥Ava: I liked Ava a lot more before I read this than after I read it. Maybe that’s because I didn’t understand the bond that she had with Ares and Hephaestus. In my books that’s wrong, but I guess it makes sense that Aimee Carter tried to keep true to the myth. I do feel bad for Hephaestus though to have to put up with that. It doesn’t make sense to me but hey whatever works for them I guess. How she acted with Persephone though was just silly and very spoiled.
♥Persephone: I was very interested in this story. We don’t get to see much of her because of how she and Henry ended. You know how she died and everything. But I can see why she didn’t want to be with Henry. She didn’t know who she was yet and who she wanted to be. You shouldn’t force someone… period. But what she did with James was wrong. Hopefully she made the right choice.
♥James: I was pretty upset with him about the whole Persephone thing but it’s not his fault that she was forced to marry someone she didn’t want to be with. Not one bit. And for them to try to discard him just for that? That’s ridiculous! He deserved to be with someone like Tuck.
♥Henry: I can understand why he would want to fade, especially after what happened with Ingrid. But it’s a good thing he stuck around! Hopefully the deaths of the others don’t haunt him forever.
♥ Walter: Surprisingly a huge jerk!!!
♥ Ares: I think that he and Ava were cute. WERE but he was just too hot and cold for her.
♥ Hephaestus: He is a much better match for Ava he had patience and cared enough to try and win her affection. Although the way he did it was not the best thought up plan.
♥ Tuck: I loved Tuck. Even though we didn’t get to know her character long she was a very strong emotional tie to the book. I cried when she died and then just sat there with my jaw open like I was catching flies.
♥Ingrid: I think that Ingrid would have certainly been the one for Hades if it wasn’t for Calliope.

♥Moments to Remember♥
♥Pg. 101
“See, secrets mean someone wants to keep something hidden, and the things people keep hidden are usually the most interesting parts of who they are. Afraid of the ocean? Totally telling. Six toes? All kinds of brilliant. Lusting after your niece? Majorly creepy.”

♥Pg. 274
“’Unless…’ Her fingers danced over the parchment, an inch from my knee. ‘Someone kind, generous, thoughtful and extremely beautiful covered for you.’
I raised an eyebrow. ‘Do you think someone like that actually exists?’”

♥Pg. 323
“A shuddering sob escaped me, and I gently cradled her body. I’d failed her. Because of me, she was dead, and I’d lost the one friend I’d had in a very, very long time. That agony and guilt swirled around inside me, compounding my grief for a girl I’d barely known two days. But time didn’t’ mean a damn thing when it came to love….”

♥Final Line: “And when she was ready for it, he would be, too.”

Thanks for reading,
Love,

Sidny xoxo

My Rating: 3.5/5

Hey there guys, this week I’m reviewing Goddess Interrupted by Aimee Carter. This is the second book in the Goddess Test series and I’m glad I continued to read in this series.  This series was something that I fell in love immediately. I liked the idea of having a way to connect with Greek Mythology without rereading the Percy Jackson series (excellent for the middle school age, but make me feel ancient now -.-) I have to admit that I was a little disappointed in this instalment of the series. I feel like the characters have degraded or simply morphed into people I don’t really care about. Their views on things changed and some of them no longer melted my heart, but made me want to shout at them. Like if they were real people I would have lost it a little. And there’s another thing. I like to lose myself in books and feel like the characters are real, but I just couldn’t this time.
Oh well, hopefully the next book with change my mind.
All in all, this book was ok. It had some high points, but I couldn’t see myself wanting to reread this one anytime soon.
THANK YOU AIMEE CARTER FOR SHOWING SOME MORE MYTHOLOGY!
Thanks for reading,

Spoiler: Goddess Interrupted by Aimee Carter

So let’s get right into it. This book really changed the series for me. And not in a good way. I just felt like the characters had changed in a way that can’t be unseen. In some ways it drove me insane. We had come so far in the past book learning who Kate was and how Henry acted and then it just all changed. All because of one stupid summer away.
Another thing I wished I could have heard more about was the underworld itself. There were so many questions I had. How many souls just milled about and how did the River Styx work. Answer me oh mighty author!
I’d have to say the best part of this book was the story line. The way that the characters had something to fight for most of the book was nice.

♥Characters♥
♥Kate: Somewhere along the line Kate became a really needy little girl. It drove me nuts that she instantly expected to go all the way with Henry and have him wrapped around her little finger. In a sense, I understand. You don’t want to love someone completely and have it go to waste or be denied. All the same she was kind of stupid. She butted her head into things that were simply dumb. Going after Persephone and Ava to see Cronus was stupid. And I had to put down the book and walk away at that point. I am extremely happy though that she stuck to her guns and is assisting in the war and she is standing strong no matter what Henry says. Good for her. Ps. PREGNANCY???? Say what Aimee Carter!

♥Henry: Henry has also changed in this book. He is back to his heart broken old ways. Feeling like he deserves no one and that’s just ridiculous. You’re a damn god! I was really upset when he acted so indifferent toward Kate, but after finding out how James had burned him in the past I wasn’t shocked. What I was surprised about was when he went ahead and kissed Persephone! Seriously after she tells you that her and James did nothing, you go make out with your ex wife? Excellent, no please continue. And this whole excuse of showing him that it wasn’t really a romance they ever had? That was just dumb. At least he ended up with Kate in the end. Which is nice.

♥Ava: She is still a very interesting character. I never pictured her to be married, but then again I didn’t really think that she’d slept with James either. Shocker! I was impressed that she didn’t just give away people’s secrets. As well I wonder if she did offer Kate up so she could get Nicholas back. She was so distraught about him being held captive it wouldn’t really surprise me. Who knows….

♥James: I started to like James in this book and I felt for him. To love someone who can never truly be yours is rough, but then we learned about Persephone and Ava. It makes a girl wonder if he’s just playing around. Although during the book he shows that he care for Kate more than some of the others when he backs her up and let’s her make her own decisions. In the end I think could have found a better way to break it to James that he wasn’t the one, but who knows what the future holds.

♥Persephone: I certainly pictured her differently I thought that she would be nicer. That she was a decent person and that’s why Henry was drawn to her, but apparently she wasn’t at all what I thought. She seems pretty self centred and although she has a mortal waiting for her at home she goes to fight without telling him that she might not return. I was quite angry when she kissed Henry, but in the end it was the little shove he needed in the right direction.

♥Calliope: She is such an evil woman. My word, to think that she has such a huge master plan and that she has such control over what happens with Cronus just makes my blood boil. I do wonder what she thinks will happen to the world when Cronus is out. Does she think he’ll just spare her? I doubt that highly, and what in the world is she going to do with poor Kate and her baby??? Urgh.

♥Cronus: I want to know more about him. Who was his mate and why did they choose separate roles against humanity? And mostly did he really love Kate or was it just something Calliope added to make things interested. Makes you wonder doesn’t it?

♥Moments to Remember♥
♥Pg. 102
”’Whatever I had then was nothing compared to what I have now with all of you. Everyone loves me here,’ said Ava, and James smiled faintly.
‘Yeah, we’re all a little in love with you,’ he said. ‘But that’s only because you’re dynamite in bed. Otherwise you’re a pain in the ass.’”

♥Final Line: “With that, she cracked the stone against the back of my head, and my world went black.”

Thanks so much for reading,
Love,

Sidny xoxo

Book Review: The Goddess Hunt by Aimee Carter

Title: The Goddess Hunt
Author: Aimee Carter
Series: Goddess Test (Book #1.5)
Genre: Fantasy, Mythology, Young Adult
Pages: 69
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Year Published: 2012
First Line: “The cave wound upward through the earth, and Pollux grasped Castor’s hand as he led him across the uneven ground.”

“A vacation in Greece sounds like the perfect way for Kate Winters to spend her first sabbatical away from the Underworld… until she gets caught up in an immortal feud going back millennia. Castor and Pollux have been on the run from Zeus and Hades’ wrath for centuries, hiding from the gods who hunt them. The last person they trust is Kate, the new Queen of the Underworld. Nevertheless, she is determined to help their cause. But when it comes to dealing with immortals, Kate still has a lot to learn…”

My Rating: 4/5

This novella is only available as an ebook, I know that’s not the best way to start out a book review, but just in case you were looking for a hard cover you won’t be able to find one. Thought I’d give you guys the heads up.
So this book follows Kate through part of her summer travels. As we learned in the first book, Kate spends 6 winter month in Eden with Henry and 6 months away doing whatever she wants. And for her first time away she goes with James to Greece. That’s all I’ll give away in the book review, if you’re up for spoilers read the post below. This book was a short and easy read. I was excited to know what Kate did when she wasn’t with Henry and we got to learn so much more about the characters who are gods and goddesses. The setting was also an interesting idea. The place where these gods originated. I was hoping to learn more about Kate’s stay in Greece but I guess perhaps in the next book we will know more.
THANK YOU AIMEE CARTER FOR SHOWING THAT THE GODS AREN’T ALWAYS FAIR!

Thanks for reading,

Spoiler: The Goddess Hunt by Aimee Carter

This book was more than I anticipated. I didn’t think there was very much that Aimee Carter could convey in 69 short pages. But she did more than enough. I think this book serves its purpose very well. We learn that the gods aren’t the best at making decisions. Just like us, sometimes they screw up. I think the setting was important and was hoping to see more of it, but most important were the characters so let’s get to it.

♥Characters♥
♥Kate: She’s still a love struck newly wed. And I think that at the beginning of this novel she thinks that the gods can do no wrong. That they are the good guys, but as the book progresses and she meets Pollux and Castor she realizes that sometimes they mess up. And there choices aren’t ones that she will always agree with. She is so sympathetic to the twins that it broke my heart to watch her struggle knowing that the reason they are still on the run is partially her husbands fault.
♥James: I’m not really rooting for him. I still like Henry better. He doesn’t really have a chance I wouldn’t think. I mean he’s sweet and everything but still I mean Henry is so… I don’t even know how to put him into words (I may have developed a crush on a fictional character).
♥Pollux: I can’t imagine having to go through life with a twin who you love more than yourself and finding out that you get to live forever but when he dies you can never see him again. He’ll just be gone. Poof. I don’t question that he broke him out of the Underworld. I feel bad that they are being chased but I think that the deal went sour mainly because of Walter, not Henry.
♥Castor: Caring and compassionate, he seems able to control his brothers emotions with a look. If I were the gods I would think that was a good thing and keep him around. Let them split the immortality. Why not. I was so ecstatic when he wasn’t taken to the Underworld.
♥Henry: The fact that he didn’t let his pride get in the way of his relationship with Kate was something that really caught my attention. It would have been so simple for him just to continue his deal with Walter and not care what Kate would think but he did. And that’s why I’m still rooting for this guy. Compassion.

♥Moments to Remember♥
♥Pg. 27
“Now is not the time to get into a pissing contest. Her very existence could be at risk if you do not tell me where she is-“

♥Final Line: “And if Walter wanted to smite me for it, then bring it on.”

Thanks for reading,
Love,

Sidny xoxo

Kate is sure he’s crazy- until she sees him bring a girl back from the dead. Now saving her mother seems crazily possible. If she succeeds, she’ll become Henry’s future bride, and a goddess.
If she fails…”

My Rating: 5/5

I can’t keep this inside. I loved this book. It was excellent and even more than I hoped it to be. It included an amazing group of characters, suspense, romance and so many amazing themes. When I was younger I had read Percy Jackson and fallen in love with the idea of Greek Mythology taking place in the present and this book is like Percy Jackson but for the next generation. At least that’s how I would describe it to fellow readers. I loved this book so much that half way through it I went online and ordered the next book in the series. Should be here the 10th of April and I can hardly wait to pick it up and start reading it. I think that this book was a great one for young adults because of how it reminds us to use our imagination. The detail in this book was so incredible that I was often sitting in my room reading it, and just yelling at the characters (that’s a good thing for me) I don’t know if that makes sense. Anyone out there that can back me up? I hope so! Not that crazy, I swear. I would suggest this book to anyone looking for suspense, romance mixed with some mythology. Please check it out and tell me what you think.
THANK YOU AIMEE CARTER FOR REMINDING ME WHAT I LOVE ABOUT MYTHOLOGY AND THE OLYMPIONS!

Spoiler: The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter

Hey guys, happy Saturday! This spoiler is all about The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter. A truly amazing read. I think that this book helped me fall in love with my imagination again. For a while I’d been having trouble reading because my brain was just so tired by the end of the day but this book I could hardly put down. I had it with me at every lunch and coffee break at work and read it as soon as I got home. I can’t wait to see what Aimee Carter has in store for us as readers in the next book. One thing I think is really important to mention is the setting. Although we don’t spend a lot of time in Eden itself (well because it doesn’t actually exists, surprise right?) We do spend a lot of time in Eden Manor. In my mind I imagine it like a castle-ish house with so many rooms that you could easily get lost in. I was hoping to hear more about the libraries in this place, but maybe in the next book. That way my book nerd personality can have that to fantasize about continually.

♥Characters♥
♥Kate: At first I had trouble with this name simply because of my sister and how obsessed she is with Percy Jackson and myths right now, but after a few chapters it was easy to forget about and put this character in the spotlight regardless of her name. I feel like this character has been through so much in her life and we only get to glimpse the end of it, but she remains strong for her mother no matter what. I was so happy that she finally fell in love with Henry I was sitting her yelling at them just to get married already because they were so obviously in love with each other. I did think that in the end we all got shocked with her when we found out that the gods and goddesses were the workers around the manor, I wonder how that will play out in the second book, and especially when she got her mother back. I cried. I won’t lie to you. I hope that she has a good summer but doesn’t forget about her fantastic husband. So many more things I could say but then this would just get into too much of a rant.
♥Henry: Ok so I fell in love with him right away. I couldn’t help myself. He was just so hurt from Persephone that I wanted to fix him and make him better and yeah Kate did just that. I think it must have been hard for him to marry Persephone’s sister though. Wouldn’t that be weird? But I guess they call each other brothers and sisters anyway. I felt awful when he almost lost Kate because not only would he fade but he would have lost the only person who has ever said that they loved him. Speaking of which, did anyone else’s heart break in that moment? Mine cracked.
♥Diana: I can’t imagine lying to your daughter that way, but really what choice did she have. I do wonder what James meant when he said that they’re relationship would change? Why? Because she lost her mortal body, or because Kate is now an immortal as well? Thoughts?
♥Ava: Although she is vain, and once we found out she was a goddess easily enough to identify as Aphrodite, she was a true friend to Kate through all of this. I think that she will still be one of her closest friends through this whole series. At least I hope so.
♥James: I feel bad for him being caught in the friendzone but why would he let himself fall for someone he could never have? It must be that male thing, wanting what they can’t have. I hope he finds happiness though. He deserves it.
♥Calliope: Just before she tried killing Kate I thought it might be her, but the author definitely had me convinced that it couldn’t be her and wham there she was, the jealous, evil, beepedy beep beep that almost ruined everything. Grrr… feel my reader wrath.

♥Moments to Remember♥
♥Pg. 25
“Was that what this was about? She wanted to find me a boyfriend so Dylan would leave me alone? ‘I don’t date.’
Ava’s mouth dropped open. ‘Really?’
‘Really.’”

♥Pg. 91
“’I don’t wear dresses,’ I said through a clenched jaw. ‘Ever.’”

♥Pg. 143
“’Nice to meet you, too,’ I said. ‘Ava talked about you a lot.’
‘I do not,’ protested Ava. She looked at Theo and frowned. ‘I don’t.’
‘She does,’ I said, and Theo grinned.”

♥Pg.192
“’Don’t take this the wrong way, but since it’s Christmas and all.. would you stay with me tonight?’
His eyes widened a fraction of an inch, and I quickly shook my head, my cheeks flushing with embarrassment.
‘Not like that. You’ve got to earn that and it costs more than just a picture, y’know.’ My weak attempt at a joke managed to break the tension enough to get him to crack an apologetic smile. ‘But could you just stay… for tonight?’”

♥Pg. 258
“He held up the deck of cards. ‘Shall we? I hear the sixth time is the charm.’
I rolled my eyes. ‘Maybe you’ll win when hell freezes over.’
He raised an eyebrow. ‘That could easily be arranged.’”

♥Pg. 291
“’I know it’s the end,’ I said, placing a hand on the raised dirt. ‘I’ve known that for a long time.’
‘No, it’s not,’ said James, moving to stand beside me. ‘It’s the beginning.’”

♥Last Line: “I may not have planned on living forever, but now that I was, Iwas going to make the most of every moment.”
