Camille is about to learn that the only thing more dangerous than trusting Nero is falling for him."

My Rating: 4/5

I really enjoyed the start of this book. Sophie Lark does an amazing job of making each character feel unique and different from one another, which is saying something when you're reading a companion series one after another. I liked the smut, I liked the plot, but some parts of the book just felt disjointed to me. There were almost pieces missing, or parts that I thought would be expanded on that just weren't. I look forward to reading the rest of this series, but I am going to take a little break.

Thanks for reading,

Book Review: Grumpy Romance by Nia Arthurs

Title: Grumpy Romance
Author: Nia Arthurs
Series/Standalone: Billionaire Dads Series (Book #1)
Genre: Romantic Comedy, Adult Fiction
Pages: 414
Publisher: Independently Published
Year Published: 2021
Format: Kindle
First Line: "I know something's off when I walk into my apartment."

"Holland Alistar is the gorgeous computer prodigy who took the real estate game by storm.
Arrogant. Surly. Eyes of steel.
He meets me on the worst day of my life and gets his fern kicked. Literally.

I'm sure I'm getting sued. Instead, I get a job offer.
Turns out, managing Allistair's schedule- and temper- is actually his revenge.
In the office, his eyes follow me everywhere. Is he going to fire me or devour me?

I can't decide what I want either. I plan his death on my off-time. I kiss him senseless in my dreams.
Hate and want. Push and pull. All we do is tiptoe around what' between us.
Until on chance meeting with his adorable daughter changes everything.

Suddenly, I'm seeing the softer side of Alistair.
But falling for him wasn't in my job description. And neither is stealing kisses in the office stairwell.

Can I keep my head on my shoulders when the office grump sets his sights on me? And what will happen if news of our forbidden romance gets out?"

I know that this series is for someone. I've just determined it wasn't me. While I like a single-dad romance, and I don't hate the billionaire boss play, I didn't love a lot about this book. I feel like if you're dipping your toes into romance this might work for you. I would also like to make this clear for people reading THIS IS FADE TO BLACK ROMANCE! Which is perfect if you're not into smutty writing. Just not perfect for me. Classy, I know! I don't forsee myself reading any of her work in the future, but again if you want written like a rom-com romance, it might be worth giving a shot.

Thanks for reading,

Book Review: Flock by Kate Stewart

Title: Flock
Author: Kate Stewart
Series/Standalone: The Ravenhood (Book #1)
Genre: New Adult, Romance, Reverse Harem
Pages: 364
Publisher: Independently Published
Year Published: 2020
Format: Ebook (Kindle Unlimited)

"Can you keep a secret?

I grew up sick

Let me clarify.

I grew up believing that real love stories include a martyr or demand great sacrifice to be worthy.

Because of that, I believed it, because I made myself believe it, and I bred the most masochistic of romantic heart, which resulted in my illness.

When I lived this story, my own twisted fairy tale, it was unbeknownst to me at the time because I was young and naive. I gave into temptation and fed the beating beast, which grew thirstier with every slash, every strike, every blow.

Triple Falls wasn't at all what it seemed, no were the men that swept me under their wing. But in order to keep them, I had to be in on their secrets.

Secrets that cost us everything to keep.

That's the novelty of fiction versus reality. You can't re-live your own love story, because by the time you've realized you're living it, it's over. At least that was the case for me and the men I trusted my foolish heart to.

Looking back, I"m convinced I willed my story into existence due to my illness.
And all were punished."

Overall Rating: 3/5
Spice Rating: 4/5

I think that this first book was a fun read, but I think it wasn't what I wanted. The plot was just ok for me. I didn't care about where the story was headed or why the characters acted the way they did. I was in it for the smut. It was great fun to read, and I was hoping for things to get messier, but they just never went too crazy. I don't plan on continuing the series, but I would continue reading from the author.
