Book Review: Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia HIbbert

Title: Act Your Age, Eve Brown
Author: Talia Hibbert
Series/Standalone: The Brown Sisters Trilogy (Book #3)
Genre: Romance, Adult
Pages: 400
Publisher: Avon
Year Published: 2021
Format: Audiobook

"In Act Your Age, Eve Brown the flightiest Brown sister crashes into the life of an uptight B&B owner and has him falling hard- literally.

Eve Brown is a certified hot mess. No matter how hard she strives to do right, her life always goes horribly wrong- so she's given up trying. But when her personal brand of chaos ruins an expensive wedding (someone had to liberate those poor doves), her parents draw the line. It's time for Eve to grow up and prove herself- even though she's not entirely sure how...

Jacob Wayne is in control. Always. The bed and breakfast owner's on a mission to dominate the hospitality industry- and he expects nothing less than perfection. So when a purple-haired tornado of a woman turns up out of the blue to interview for his open chef position, he tells her the brutal truth: Not a chance in hell. Then she hits him with her car- supposedly by accident. Yeah, right.

Now his arm is broken, his B&B is understaffed, and the dangerously unpredictable Eve is fluttering around, trying to help. Before long, she's infiltrated his work, his kitchen- and his spare bedroom. Jacob hates everything about it, or rather he should, Sunny, chaotic Eve is his natural-born nemesis, but the longer these two enemies spend in close quarters, the more their animosity turns into something else. Like Eve, the heat between them is impossible to ignore- and it's melting Jacob's frosty exterior."

My Rating: 5/5

This was the romance I didn't know I was looking for. At first, I expected to feel that Eve was spoiled, but the more we got to know her the more I realized she was having trouble committing to a life path due to comparing what she enjoyed to those around her. And not suddenly mastering a skill. I can relate to some of those things. As for Jacob, I loved his gruff exterior and getting to learn about who he genuinely was as a character. The other thing that this book had going for it was the yearning. I felt like the lusting after each other was so well done. It helped make the romance believable. A fair warning that there are quite a few steamy scenes that are explicit, so if that's not something you're into I wouldn't recommend it.
Can't wait to read more from the author.

Thanks for reading,

Book Review: Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert

Title: Take a HInt, Dani Brown
Author: Talia Hibbert
Series/Standalone: The Brown Series (Book #2)
Genre: Romance, Adult
Pages: 360
Publisher: Avon Books
Year Published: 2020
Format: Paperback Copy (Library Copy)
First Line: "The moon was high and full, the night was ripe for witchy business, and Danika Brown had honey on her tit."

"Talia Hibbert returns with another charming romantic comedy about a young woman who agrees to fake date her friend after a video of him 'rescuing' her from their office building goes viral....

Danika Brown knows what she wants: professional success, academic renown, and an occasional roll in the hay to relieve that career-driven tension. But romance? Been there, done that, burned the T-shirt. Romantic partner, whatever their gender, is a distraction at best and a drain at worst. So Dani asks the universe for the perfect friend-with-benefits- someone who knows the score and knows their way around the bedroom.

When brood security guard Zafir Ansari rescues Dani from a workplace fire drill gone wrong, it's an obvious sign: PhD student Dani and ex-rugby player Zaf are destined to sleep together. But before she can explain that fact, a video of the heroic rescue goes viral. Now half the internet is shipping #DrRugbae- and Zaf is begging Dani to play along. Turns out, his sports charity for kids could really use the publicity. Lying to help children? Who on earth would refuse?

Dani's plan is simple: fake a relationship in public, seduce Zaf behind the scenes. The trouble is, grumpy Zaf's secretly a hopeless romantic- and he's determined to corrupt Dani's stone-cold realism. Before long, he's tackling her fears into the dirt. But the former sports star has issues of his own, and the walls around his heart are as thick as his... um, thighs.

Suddenly the easy lay Dani dreamed of is more complex than her thesis. Has her wish backfired? is her focus being tested? Or is the universe just waiting for her to take a hint?"

My Rating: 2/5

A lot of popular booktubers and bloggers have been raving about this series and after reading the first book (Get a Life, Chloe Brown), I was ready to jump into the second one. Here is where the problem lies. I think that I prefer my adult romance to be audiobooks, and while I tried to read the physical copy of this book it just felt like something was missing. This could be because I couldn't relate with Dani's p.o.v on relationships, or that I just prefer dislike to lovers more than this friendly banters of friends with benefits to lovers. I do plan to continue the series, just with the audiobooks from her on out. I would also like to state that there aren't many explicit scenes in this book for a girl who dreams about having the perfect no strings attached connection. Just as a note to anyone who doesn't care for explicit sex scenes in their romances.

Thanks for reading,

Book Review: Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert

Title: Get a Life, Chloe Brown
Author: Talia Hibbert
Series/Standalone: The Brown Sisters Trilogy (Book #1)
Genre: Adult, Romance
Pages: 373
Publisher: Avon
Year Published: 2019
Format: Audiobook

"Chloe Brown is a chronically ill computer geek with a goal, a plan and a list. After almost- but not quite- dying, she's come up with seven directives to help her "Get a Life", and she's already completed the first: finally moving out of her glamorous family's mansion. The next items?

- Enjoy a drunken night out.
- Ride a motorcycle
- Go camping
- Having meaningless but thoroughly enjoyable sex.
- Travel the world with nothing but hand luggage.
- And... do something bad.

But it's not easy being bad, even when you've written step-by-step guidelines on how to do it correctly. What Chloe needs is a teacher, and she knows just the man for the job.

Redford 'Red' Morgan is a handyman with tattoos, a motorcycle, and more sex appeal than ten-thousand Hollywood heartthrobs. He's also an artist who paints at night and hides his work in the light of day, which Chloe knows because she spies on him occasionally. Jus the teeniest, tiniest bit.

But when she enlists Red in her mission to rebel, she learns things about him that no spy session could teach her. Like why he clearly resents Chloe's wealthy background. And why he never shows his art to anyone. And what really lies beneath his rough exterior...."

My Rating: 4/5

I've really been in the mood for romance this last little while, and luckily my hold on this book came up and I was able to binge it. Talia Hibbert does a great job of really composing out our two main characters and giving us an idea of who they are as people. I can't speak to the rep for chronic pain, but I have heard from some others who have experienced it that this is a fair representation of their lives (as much as any work of fiction ever can be). I loved the romance and the sex scenes leaned a little over the top for me, but enjoyable none the less. I will say that I didn't expect how explicit the sex scenes to be just based on the cover, so if that's not something you are into I'd steer clear. I plan on reading the next book in the series (I think it follows the sister named Dani).
