"All Lumberjanes are on deck when the High Council comes to camp for inspection!

The High Council is coming to camp and counselor Jen is determined to make everything perfect, even though a storm is brewing and kittens from the boys' camp are manifesting magical powers. It's every Lumberjane on deck as the girls do their best to prep for the grounds inspection... but there are some storms no one can prepare for."

My Rating: 2.75/5

This is such a stupidly specific rating. I just couldn't help but think about how this series completely changed the direction it was going and I'm not happy about it. I feel like now this series is so much younger than it was when I started reading it. That being said there was a cute moment at the end of this volume and I loved that moment but the rest was so blah to me. I'm going to read the next instalment but after that, I don't plan to continue unless I love Volume 8.

Thanks for reading,

Sidny

"Knot on your life!
All is fair in love and badges! Or so April, Jo, Mal, Molly and Ripley thought until they met the mysterious counsellor, Seafarin' Karen. When the Lumberjanes decide it's time to learn more about the theatrical yet intriguing counsellor, things take a turn for the strange. Between a sudden storm hitting the camp, shapeshifters, and strange portals, this is one badge that the Lumberjanes must go above and beyond for."

My Rating: 4/5

So as I am a nervous human, I just decided to binge read this one tonight as well. I was a fan of the storyline far more in this one. It was less of a middle grade read and more just a general adventure story. I am still getting used to the art style, which is hard because I loved the style that they were drawn in, but this one is still interesting to me. I'm curious to see where the mystical woods aspect is going.

Thanks for reading,

When friendships are challenged, can the Lumberjanes save the day? Don't miss out on this exciting collection!"

My Rating: 2.5/5

Let's be honest. This volume just has something missing. I didn't get the same vibe that I get from the rest of the series, the art style changed and the messages seemed to change as well. All of which is disappointing as this has been one of my favourite series up until now. I'm nervous about where the plot and art are going and hopefully, the next instalment captures my interest otherwise we could have a problem on our hands.
Needless to say, this was just ok for me and I will read the next one, but I'm just disappointed by the content of this volume.

Sidny

This New York Times Bestseller and Eisner Award- Nominated series is written by Noelle Stevenson (Nimona, ADVENTURE TIME), and Lumberjanes co-creator Shanon Watters and illustrated by Brooke Allen (A Home for Mr. Easter)."

My Rating: 5/5

This might be my favourite instalment in the whole series so far. It just really jumped the plot and the storyline ahead to make us wonder what is going on in the forest with time and monsters. Also, where did the Lumberjanes come from and when did they start. I'm so excited to see where the characters go and to learn more about their lives and relationships with each other. Also, an introduction to the newer characters makes me so excited.

Thank you for reading,

Back at camp, Jo, April, and Ripley must stay on their toes as they try and earn every badge possible, which ends up being a lot harder than any of them ever planned.

This New York Times bestselling series continues with Lumberjanes #9, "If You Got It, Haunt It Badge," #10, "Abscence Make the Heart Grow Fondant Badge," #11 "Go Ball-istic Badge," and #12 "Oldie but Goodie Badge."'

My Rating: 4.75/5

This is another one of my favourite graphic novel series. I'm kind of new to the whole graphic novel situation. I really love the kick-ass attitude of the women in this series and the idea of inclusion. It was amazing to see how the characters progress and to learn a little about their lives outside of the camp. I can't wait to continue the series and see where the storyline will go.

"Jo, April, Mal, Molly and Ripley are not your average campers and Miss Qiunzella Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpet's Camp for Hardcore Lady-Types is not your average summer camp. Between the river monsters, magic and the art of friendship bracelets, this summer is only just the beginning. Join the Lumberjanes as they take on raptors and a sibling rivalry that only myths are made of.

This New York Times bestseller and Eisner Award-nominated series is written by awesome all-star Noelle Stevenson and brilliant newcomer Grace Ellis, and illustrated by the tremendously talented Brook Allen."

My Rating: 4/5

This one didn't quite live up to my expectations due to how much I loved the first book in this graphic novel series, but I wasn't mad about it. It was fun, and showed females building each other up in the most terrific way. The magic is intense, but the friendship even more so. I can't wait to continue this series and hope to purchase my own copies soon.

Sidny

Review: Lumberjanes Vol. 1: Beware the Kitten Holy by Noelle Stevenson

22554204

Title: Beware the Kitten Holy
Author and Artists: Noelle Stevenson, Grace Ellis, Faith Hicks, Shannon Watters, Brooke Allen
Series/Standalone: Lumberjanes Vol. 1 (Issues 1-4)
Genre: Graphic Novels, Comics, Fantasy
Pages: 128
Publisher: BOOM! Box
Year Published: 2015
Format: Graphic Novel (Library Copy)

"At Miss Qiunzilla Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thistle Crumpet's camp for hard-core lady-types, things are not what they seem. Three-eyed foxes. Secret caves. Anagrams. Luckily, Jo, April, Mal, Molly and Ripley are five rad, butt-kicking best pals determined to have an awesome summer together... And they're not gonna let a magical quest or an array of supernatural critters get in their way! The mystery keeps getting bigger, and it all begins here."

My Rating: 5/5

This is a great graphic novel. It features so many badass young women who are each unique but is building each other up instead of tearing each other down. I also loved the use of a camp setting with these girls, and the director of the camp really made me smile throughout the story. I can't wait to see where this story goes, and how our characters grow. The relationships between characters will hopefully deepen and the mystery will continue.
