Book Review: Finale by Becca Fitzpatrick

Title: Finale
Author: Becca Ftizpatrick
Series: Hush, Hush
Pages: 454
Publisher: Simon & Schuster BFYR
Year Published: 2012

“Nora and Patch thought their troubles were behind them. Hank is gone and they should be able to put his ugly vendetta to rest. But in Hank’s absence, Nora has become the unwitting head of the Nephilim and must finish what Hank began. Which ultimately means destroying the fallen angels- destroying Patch.
Nora will never let that happen, so she and Patch make a plan: lead everyone to believe they have broken up, and work the system from the inside. Nora will convince the Nephilim that they are making a mistake in fighting the fallen angels, and Patch will find out everything he can from the opposing side. They will end this war before it can even begin.
But the best-laid out plans often go awry. Nora is put through the paces in her new role and finds herself drawn to an addictive power she never anticipated.
As the battle lines are drawn, Nora and Patch must confront the differences that have always been between them and either choose to ignore them or let them destroy the love they have always fought for. “

My Rating: 5/5

I always hate to see a series end but this one made endings look amazing. Not only was this, in my opinion the most captivating Hush, Hush book, but it was enough to make me reread the series over and over again. I have meant many weekends reading this series and during those weekends I have fallen in love with the character more and more. They are so well described that I can picture them easily. By using impressive diction I think that Becca Fitzpatrick does a great job of bringing fantasy to our everyday world. I love that this shows in a way a Romeo and Juliet both have different backgrounds and aren’t supposed to be together. A lot of people won’t agree with me comparing this to Shakespeare, but I think that the characters are pulled together the same way Romeo and Juliet were and as a romantic that’s what draws me in.
THANK YOU BECCA FITZPATRICK FOR SHOWING A WOMAN WHO CAN FIGHT FOR HER OWN!

Spoiler: Finale by Becca Fitzpatrick

I was impressed by how Becca Fitzpatrick ended this series. I think she tied up the loose ends but didn’t do that so quickly that I felt like she was cutting things off. These books have a natural wearing out process, if that makes sense. I have fallen in love with these books and can’t help but think about rereading them even though I just finished them. I think they have staying power, and I would suggest them to any girl who loves a romance with a bit of action and fantasy/paranormal stuff (Well that was tremendous word usage). I have heard that there is supposed to be a movie coming out for this series and if there is I can’t wait to watch it, hopefully they don’t screw it up though.

Characters:
Nora: I think we see Nora take charge a lot more in this book. She has to lead this army, she doesn’t have a choice and while she does ask Patch for help she doesn’t just ignore her leadership duties. I think it was interesting to see the not goodie two shoes Nora as she took devil craft but I couldn’t help but get mad at her for not coming clean with Patch till near the end. I’m happy that they swore that vow together and ended up together. Sigh, I love happy endings!

Patch: I still love him to much considering he’s fictional. He is the perfect guy, which means he probably doesn’t exist, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t day dream about him. I was so proud that he stood by her no matter what, even during the war against his own, would you call it a race? I’m gonna go with yes. Not only that he didn’t pressure her into whatever he wanted, he was around to talk it out with her when she was in over her head, and let her make her own decisions. Now that’s a man! I was ecstatic that he was able to feel at the end of the book, I think that is what he deserved at the least for help bringing down the villains.

Scott: I cried more than I little when he died. And I went into denial where I figured that if Patch could come back then so could Scott. Him and Vee were perfect together and I have no doubt that they would have ended up together, but because of circumstance and him being the brave man he was he died.

Vee: I was shocked to hear that she was Nephilim. I just couldn’t believe that she was and the way she didn’t notice was impressive. Without Scott she would have never noticed what was happening with her and may have sworn fealty to some fallen angel scum, hmm Rixon anyone? I was impressed that she fought even though she knew hardly anything about her race. I hope that she ends up happy with her human husband, and although I’m sure the thought of Scott’s death will haunt her forever, I hope she can move on and be happy.

Dante: I was really surprised that he was trying to take over from her. Just like Nora I grew to trust him, he was training her and talking her up with the higher up Nephilim so I thought he was a good guy and just had a crush on her and wanted to steal her from Patch. Then WHAM, he was the bad guy working with the foe. Impressive writing Becca, impressive.

Marcie: I was surprised that she moved in with Nora, but it made sense in a way. She was grieving and needed someone to comfort her. I didn’t see Dante using her though. Is it bad that I’m happy she died? Probably, but it’s the truth.

“’Nice costume,’ he said.
‘Ditto. I can  tell you put a lot of thought into yours.’
Amusement curled his mouth. ‘If you don’t like it, I can take it off,’”

♥Pg. 279
“Marcie drove, since she claimed she didn’t want to be seen in my car, and while I didn’t blame her, it did drive the message home. She had money and I didn’t. Hank had left me his doomed army, and he’d left Marcie his inheritance. Unfair didn’t begin to cover it.”

♥Pg. 335
“’He’s in the mausoleum, with an incredibly smart stray dog watching over him.’
Patch lifted his eyebrows. ‘Should I ask?’
‘I think that dog is vying for your job as my guardian angel…’”

♥Pg. 445
“’I want to wake up with you every morning and fall asleep beside you each night,’ Patch told me gravely. ‘I want to take care of you, cherish you, and love you in a way no other man every could. I want to spoil you—every kiss, every touch, every thought, they all belong to you. I’ll make you happy. Every day, I’ll make you happy.’”

“’You dress to impress,’ I said approvingly.
‘No, Angel.’ He leaned in, his teeth softly grazing my ear. ‘I undress to impress.’”

Book Review: Silence by Becca Fitzpatrick

Title: Silence
Author: Becca Fitzpatrick
Series: Hush, Hush (Book #3)
Pages: 438
Publisher: SIMON & SCHUSTER BFYR
Year Published: 2011

“Nora Grey can’t remember the past five months of her life. After the initial shock of waking up in a cemetery and being told that she has been missing for weeks- with no one knowing where she was or who she was with- she tries to get her life back on track. Go to school, hang out with her best friend, Vee, and dodge he mom’s creepy new boyfriend.
But there is this voice in the back of her head, an idea that she can almost reach out and touch. Visions of angel wings and unearthly creatures that have nothing to do with the life she knows.
And this unshakable feeling that a part of her is missing.
Then Nora crosses paths with a sexy stranger, whom she feels a mesmerizing connection to. He seems to hold all the answers… and her heart. Every minute she spends with him grows more and more intense until she realizes she could be falling in love. Again.”

My Rating: 4/5

I was surprised that this book had so much to do with memory loss and looking back on the first two books. But I think it was the best way Becca Fitzpatrick could have tackled book three. In most series that I have read there is a down hill point, but these books have just about stayed in the same rating range. I think that this book was surprising in many ways, not only do we see Nora become a strong character, but the setting and her life changes quickly. I think that was the right way to go so there isn’t too much of a lead up but plenty of surprises. The only thing I didn’t like was how long it took for her to figure out some of the characters roles, I guess this is because we got to read about them in Crescendo while she has lost her memory.
THANK YOU BECCA FITZPATRICK FOR SHOWING THAT NOT COWERING IN THE FACE OF DANGER IS SOMETHING GIRLS CAN DO TOO!

Spoiler: Silence by Becca Fitzpatrick

I actually wasn’t expecting how this book would be laid out, which for me made it that much more interesting. I loved that Nora lost her memory and she had to replay some of it with Patch, I only wish it hadn’t token so long for her to realize that Jev and Patch were the same person. It seemed like that part went on forever as I was yelling at my book. I did enjoy seeing Patch’s house, I was surprised that he had such nice taste, I thought it would be kind of  messy in a college/teenage boy kinda way but I guess being as old as he was he got over that stage already.
Characters:
Nora: I was impressed that she stood up for what she believed in this time and didn’t just stand back and wait for Patch to rescue her over and over. She at least tried to take matters into her own hands. I didn’t like that she was so trusting with Scott and I think he double crossed her, but in the end if she hadn’t trusted Scott she probably wouldn’t have trusted Patch. I was the most mad that she just assumed that Hank was really just with her mom. Of course he wasn’t he is a dirt bag!

Patch: I really love this guy. Maybe it’s the mystery, or the way he makes jokes about serious things and is a huge flirt. But he’s definitely one of the best male main characters I have read about. Maybe because I’m a sucker for romance. I don’t know call me pathetic, but he just makes me smile. I don’t know how

Hank: I hate him. The fact that he uses both of his daughters to help create his army is horrible and means that he isn’t really a father at all, really I’d just call him a donor. He really didn’t deserve to live and I’m happy that Nora shot him, I thought she was going to just lock him up, and judging by his strength that wouldn’t work. Btw, I’m just wonder, who in the hell does their own blood transfusion with their daughter? That’s just messed up!

Scott: I have little doubt in my mind that he double crossed Nora to try and help his race. I can’t say I blame him. If my body was getting possessed and miss used perhaps for 2 weeks I doubt I would be too thrilled about that.

Vee: What a horrible liar? I mean, I know she was trying to protect Nora from Patch, but friends shouldn’t lie to each other. At all!

Moments to Remember:

♥Pg. 165
“‘Hey now, none of that. You know I don’t have one evil bone in my body.’
‘Only two hundred and six of them?’”

♥Pg. 227
“’It’s called a shower…’ I began automatically, then trailed off. My memory snagged, taken aback by a compelling and forceful sense of undue familiarity. ‘Soap, shampoo, hot water,’ I added, almost as an afterthought.
‘Naked. I know the drill,’ Jev said, something unreadable passing over his eyes.”

♥Pg. 294
“‘You’re not the kind of girl I would have chased after  when I was in Portland, but I’m not the same guy I was back then either. You’re a little to good for me, and let’s face it, a little too smart.’
‘You’ve got street smarts,’ I pointed out.
‘Stop interrupting. You’re going to make me lose my place.’”

♥Pg. 428
“‘I loved you long before you loved me. It’s the only thing I have you beat at, and I’ll bring it up every chance I get.’”

♥Pg. 430
“‘We don’t have to go back to my place, Angel. I can take you home, if that’s what you want. Or, if you decide you want to sleep at my place, on opposite sides of my bedroom with a Do Not Cross line drawn down the middle, I’ll do it. I won’t like it, but I’ll do it.’”

Book Review: Crescendo by Becca Fitzpatrick

Title: Crescendo
Author: Becca Fitzpatrick
Series: Hush, Hush (Book#2)
Pages: 427
Publisher: Simon & Schuster BFYR
Year Published: 2010

"Nora Grey's life is still far from perfect. Surviving an attempt on her life wasn't pleasant, but at least she got a guardian angel out of it. A mysterious, magnetic, gorgeous guardian angel. But despite his role in her life, Patch has been acting anything but angelic. he's more elusive than ever (if that's possible) and what's worse, he seems to be spending time with Nora's arch-enemy, Marcie Millar.
Nora would have hardly noticed Scott Parnell, an old family friend who has moved back to town, if Patch hadn't been acting so distant. Even with Scott's totally infuriating attitude, Nora finds herself drawn to him- despite her lingering feelings that he is hiding something.
If that weren't enough, Nora is haunted by images of her murdered father, and comes to question whether her Nephilim bloodline has anything to do with his death. Desperate to figure out what happened, she puts herself in increasingly dangerous situations to get the answer. But maybe some things are better left buried, because the truth could destroy everything- and everyone- she trusts."

My Rating: 4.5/5

This is the second book in the Hush, Hush series and I was happy that Becca Fitzpatrick wasn't afraid to go in a faster paced writing style, getting to the point with suspense, but not so I was bored. I was surprised to find that the characters had evolved so much and I was able to connect with them on a deeper level. The setting also seems to develop as the reader sees different parts of town. The best part of this book was without a doubt the suspense and the feeling of being watched throughout. I would suggest this book for anyone who enjoys romance, but is interested in a good mystery as well.
THANK YOU BECCA FITZPATRICK FOR LETTING THE BAD BOY HAVE ANOTHER SIDE!

Spoiler: Crescendo by Becca Fitzpatrick

This book was surprisingly better than the first one, which is opposite of what I usually find. I think that Becca Fitzpatrick had a better opportunity to explain some of the things going on with her characters and also explore and create a unique setting that I have never really thought of before. I guess that most paranormal books use a regular setting and then just integrate the oddness (possibly the most interesting thing I've ever said on this blog, but don't hold me to it.) and although the author did this she makes Nora's home town seem unique and I you never quite know what expect from it.

Characters:
Nora: I'm not going to lie, I was extremely mad at Nora on multiple occasions. She just seemed to be making uneducated guesses when it came to Patch and I understand that she wanted to know why he was hanging out with Marcie, but maybe she should have trusted him when he said it was nothing. In the end I think she realized that he wouldn't do that to her, he only did afterwards. Is it fair to say that I think everyone yelled at Nora at least a tiny bit?

Patch: I may be in love with him. More than a little bit. I think it's the way that even after Nora hurts him time and time again he tries his best to take care of her. I can't believe in the end they got caught though! I finally thought they'd be getting somewhere, but noooo. Stupid Black Hand!

Vee: I was sad that we didn't see as much with her in this book, because she spent so much time with Rixon, but she's still that one friend that makes everything way to dirty without even meaning to. My friend mentioned that she's like me, and I don't know if it's wrong, but I said thanks..

Rixon: About 3/4 of the way through I figured out that he was the problem. The way that he kept on telling stuff about Patch to Nora, which if he wasn't getting anything out of it would make him a horrible friend. I was surprised that he would do that to Patch and Vee too. I wonder if he was only going out with Vee to get to Nora? Poor, poor Vee.

Marcie: I know girls like this and I just want to kill her. She's rude and obnoxious. I was surprised that she might be sisters with Nora, but then I thought maybe she was adopted so she feels jealous of Nora. Hopefully that question gets answered in book 3.

Scott: I think him and Marcie belong together. i understand that he's scared and doesn't really understand what's going on with him but I think he could do a better job of keeping in a secret. It's frightening how he acts to his mother. I shivered actually when he spoke to her mind. CREEPY!

Hank: I figured that he was the Black Hand after a while because of the way we found out he was Nora's dad. It would make sense that he killed her adopted father because he was jealous or felt that he wasn't raising her right.

Moments to Remember:
♥Pg. 24
"'Don't ever leave me,' I told Patch, hooking a finger in the collar of his shirt and pulling him close.
'You're mine, Angel,' he murmured, brushing the words across my jawbone as I arched my neck higher inviting him to kiss everywhere. 'You have me forever.'"

♥Pg. 163
"I felt the unexplainable urge to storm after them and do something I hoped I'd regret- like choke Marcie with her stupid red thong."

♥Pg. 254
"'How can you turn down a once-in-a-lifetime chance to drive the 'Stang?'
I got to my feet and brushed the sand off the seat of my pants. 'How about you sell me the 'Stang for thirty dollars? I can even pay cash.'
He laughed, slinging his arm around my shoulders. 'Drunk, but not that drunk, Grey.'"

Book Review: Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

Title: Hush, Hush
Author: Becca Fitzpatrick
Series: Hush, Hush (Book #1)
Pages: 391
Publisher: Simon & Schuster BFYR
Year Published: 2009

"Romance was not part of Nora Grey's plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how hard her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch comes along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Patch draws Nora to him against her better judgement.
But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure whom to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is and seems to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is a way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.
For she is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those who have fallen and when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost Nora her life."

My Rating: 4/5

I had read this book a few years back, before I started doing book reviews and when I saw it on a shelf at my school library I couldn't resist reading it again. I love the way this book goes into detail about the fallen and how Becca Fitzpatrick incorporates legends into reality. I did not always enjoy the way the main character was so goody-goody but throughout the book we see her loosen up. This book had a perfect pace that didn't drag on or go to fast. I love it! Can't wait to read the next one,
THANK YOU BECCA FITZPATRICK FOR INSPIRING ME TO BELIEVE IN LEGEND!

Love,
Sidny ♥♪♫

Spoiler: Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

This book is an amazing balance between reality and legend. I loved that Hush, Hush takes place n a small town, for me this always makes it seem more plausible. The atmosphere that is found in this book is all too important the way that it's always raining or dark and the rare sunny days show alot and help the author display what Nora is feeling. The storms particularly help with the feeling of unrest and indecisiveness. I love the farm house that Nora lives in. It is completely original!

Characters:
Nora: I got frustrated with Nora at the beginning she seemed to goody-goody. It drove me insane, but when she meets Patch she starts to loosen up and be herself. I love them together it kind of follows the idea that a boy wants a good girl whose only naughty for him and a girl whats a bad boy whose only sweet for her. It all makes sense if you look at it that way.

Vee: I love Vee! My favorite character in this book by far, she isn't afraid to say what she wants. She's alot like me in the way that she is constantly making dirty jokes and checking out boys. Most of my favorite moments involve her directly.

Patch: What a sexy male lead? I mean, who doesn't like tall, dark, mysterious and handsome? He is insanely hot and I'm completely jealous of Nora.

Elliot: I knew he was evil, but kind of in a trance? WTH?

Jude: I never thought I would see Jude being the bad guy, but at the end its so easy to put two and two together. He's crazy and I'm insanely happy that he died, but I wonder if he'll be back.

Ms.Green: I think that she took the nutty, ex-girlfriend cake. She is freaking insane!

Moments to Remember:
♥Pg. 9
"'Good sleuthing takes practice,' he continued.
'So does sex,' came another back-of-the-room comment. We all bit back laughter while Coach pointed a warning finger at the offender.
'That won't be part of tonight's homework.'"

♥Pg. 11
"'Human reproduction can be a sticky subject-'
'Eww!' groaned a chorus of students."

♥Pg. 46
"'I'm trying to read the tile he's holding... hang on... How to Be a Stalker.'
'He is not checking out a book with that title.' But I wasn't sure.
'It's either that or How to Radiate Sexy Without Trying.'"

♥Pg. 58
"'Mmm, check it out,' said Vee. 'Mr. Green Sweater is getting out of his seat. Now that's a body that hits the gym regularly. He is definitely making his way toward us, his eyes pursuing the real estate, your real estate, that is.'"

♥Pg. 384
"'She'll kill me if she finds you here. Can you climb trees? Tell me you can climb a tree!'
Patch grinned. 'I can fly.'
Oh. Right. Well, okay."
