Book Review: These Girls by Sarah Pekkanen

Title: These Girls
Author: Sarah Pekkanen
Genre: Chicklit
Pages: 322
Publisher: Washington Square Press
Year Published: 2012
First Line: “’Hold it!’ A voice commanded.”

“Cate, Renee, and Abby have come to New York for very different reasons, and in a bustling city of millions, they are linked together through circumstance and chance.
Cate has just been named the features editor of Gloss, a high-end lifestyle magazine. It’s a professional coup,. But her new job comes with more complications than Cate ever anticipated.
Her roommate Renee will do anything to nab the plum job of beauty editor at Gloss. But snide comments about Renee’s weight  send her into an emotional tailspin. Soon she is taking black market diet pills, despite the racing heartbeat and trembling hands that signal she’s heading for read danger.
Then there’s Abby, whom they take in as a third roommate. Once a joyful graduate student working as a nanny part time, she abruptly fled a seemingly happy life in D.C suburbs. No one knows what shattered Abby- or why she left everything she once loved behind.
Pekkanen’s most compellingly, true-to-life novel yet tells the story of three very different women as they navigate the complications of careers and love- and find the lifeline they need in each other.”

My Rating: 5/5

Hey there book reading people (poetry to your ears, I know), I come baring a wonderful novel about the adventure of three girls who find themselves and by doing so find each other. It was a heartfelt novel that left the reader satisfied. I loved that while all the characters were relatable they were all very different so you didn’t have to feel like you were left out of anything. I also feel that this chicklit has more suspense than others I’ve read, it’s not over the top drama just suspense. Honestly, I fell in love with the characters in this novel and Sarah Pekkanen couldn’t have done a better job of bringing the magazine world to our everyday world. Incredible.
THANK YOU SARAH PEKKANEN FOR SHOWING US THAT ITS FAR MORE IMPORTANT TO BE OURSELVES THAN ANYONE ELSE!

Thanks for reading,
Love,

Sidny xoxo
