Update and a THANK YOU!

It's been a long time since I've had the time to blog, so I'm glad that I have this oppurtonity to speak now. I just recently moved to my dorm room and it's ridiculously busy summer preparing for college and all that other kind of excitement that I haven't had the time to finish any books. Weird I know. What kinda reader am I?
So here's what's changed on the TBR list. I am no longer reading Fifty Shades Freed by E.L James for the simple reason that I was borrowing that book from someone in my home town and now I don't live there anymore. Sucks. I know! But hopefully someday I'll get the chance to take a peak at that series again.
For now though I've slipped between the covers of The Goddess Legacy by Aimee Carter.
Hope to have a review and spoiler out there soon.

Last but certainly not least, I owe a huge thank you to you guys for getting me to 10,000 page views. I would keep reviewing without them but knowing that someone out there reads as well and thinks that I have something worth reading is the icing on the cake (that was too many cliche's in one place whoops)
Love,
Sidny xoxo

My Rating: 3.5/5

Hey there guys, this week I’m reviewing Goddess Interrupted by Aimee Carter. This is the second book in the Goddess Test series and I’m glad I continued to read in this series.  This series was something that I fell in love immediately. I liked the idea of having a way to connect with Greek Mythology without rereading the Percy Jackson series (excellent for the middle school age, but make me feel ancient now -.-) I have to admit that I was a little disappointed in this instalment of the series. I feel like the characters have degraded or simply morphed into people I don’t really care about. Their views on things changed and some of them no longer melted my heart, but made me want to shout at them. Like if they were real people I would have lost it a little. And there’s another thing. I like to lose myself in books and feel like the characters are real, but I just couldn’t this time.
Oh well, hopefully the next book with change my mind.
All in all, this book was ok. It had some high points, but I couldn’t see myself wanting to reread this one anytime soon.
THANK YOU AIMEE CARTER FOR SHOWING SOME MORE MYTHOLOGY!
Thanks for reading,
Love,

Spoiler: Goddess Interrupted by Aimee Carter

So let’s get right into it. This book really changed the series for me. And not in a good way. I just felt like the characters had changed in a way that can’t be unseen. In some ways it drove me insane. We had come so far in the past book learning who Kate was and how Henry acted and then it just all changed. All because of one stupid summer away.
Another thing I wished I could have heard more about was the underworld itself. There were so many questions I had. How many souls just milled about and how did the River Styx work. Answer me oh mighty author!
I’d have to say the best part of this book was the story line. The way that the characters had something to fight for most of the book was nice.

♥Characters♥
♥Kate: Somewhere along the line Kate became a really needy little girl. It drove me nuts that she instantly expected to go all the way with Henry and have him wrapped around her little finger. In a sense, I understand. You don’t want to love someone completely and have it go to waste or be denied. All the same she was kind of stupid. She butted her head into things that were simply dumb. Going after Persephone and Ava to see Cronus was stupid. And I had to put down the book and walk away at that point. I am extremely happy though that she stuck to her guns and is assisting in the war and she is standing strong no matter what Henry says. Good for her. Ps. PREGNANCY???? Say what Aimee Carter!

♥Henry: Henry has also changed in this book. He is back to his heart broken old ways. Feeling like he deserves no one and that’s just ridiculous. You’re a damn god! I was really upset when he acted so indifferent toward Kate, but after finding out how James had burned him in the past I wasn’t shocked. What I was surprised about was when he went ahead and kissed Persephone! Seriously after she tells you that her and James did nothing, you go make out with your ex wife? Excellent, no please continue. And this whole excuse of showing him that it wasn’t really a romance they ever had? That was just dumb. At least he ended up with Kate in the end. Which is nice.

Ava: She is still a very interesting character. I never pictured her to be married, but then again I didn’t really think that she’d slept with James either. Shocker! I was impressed that she didn’t just give away people’s secrets. As well I wonder if she did offer Kate up so she could get Nicholas back. She was so distraught about him being held captive it wouldn’t really surprise me. Who knows….

♥James: I started to like James in this book and I felt for him. To love someone who can never truly be yours is rough, but then we learned about Persephone and Ava. It makes a girl wonder if he’s just playing around. Although during the book he shows that he care for Kate more than some of the others when he backs her up and let’s her make her own decisions. In the end I think could have found a better way to break it to James that he wasn’t the one, but who knows what the future holds.

Persephone: I certainly pictured her differently I thought that she would be nicer. That she was a decent person and that’s why Henry was drawn to her, but apparently she wasn’t at all what I thought. She seems pretty self centred and although she has a mortal waiting for her at home she goes to fight without telling him that she might not return. I was quite angry when she kissed Henry, but in the end it was the little shove he needed in the right direction.

♥Calliope: She is such an evil woman. My word, to think that she has such a huge master plan and that she has such control over what happens with Cronus just makes my blood boil. I do wonder what she thinks will happen to the world when Cronus is out. Does she think he’ll just spare her? I doubt that highly, and what in the world is she going to do with poor Kate and her baby??? Urgh.

♥Cronus: I want to know more about him. Who was his mate and why did they choose separate roles against humanity? And mostly did he really love Kate or was it just something Calliope added to make things interested. Makes you wonder doesn’t it?

♥Moments to Remember♥
♥Pg. 102
”’Whatever I had then was nothing compared to what I have now with all of you. Everyone loves me here,’ said Ava, and James smiled faintly.
‘Yeah, we’re all a little in love with you,’ he said. ‘But that’s only because you’re dynamite in bed. Otherwise you’re a pain in the ass.’”

♥Final Line: “With that, she cracked the stone against the back of my head, and my world went black.”

Thanks so much for reading,
Love,

Sidny xoxo

And then he meets a girl.
First as his captive, then his reluctant house guest, Julie is a blast of living color in R’s gray landscape, and something inside him begins to bloom. He doesn’t want to eat this girl- although she looks delicious0 he wants to protect her. My Rating: 5/5

Hey guys! Happy first half of the week! Whatever day and time it is wherever you are.. I can’t even keep track of the time here never mind.
So let’s get right to the point. I think that a lot of people associate this book with a fluffed up version of zombies. And to an extent they have that correct.. It isn’t the thriller book, or a book all about the end of days. This book is mainly about hope. Not just young love as I expected it to be, but real honest to god hope. The thing that pushes us and makes us human. I was extremely impressed and quickly fell in love with this book and it’s characters. It made me think without a doubt about people close to me and the future, but not in a scary way just in a what if sort of way. I would suggest this book to anyone looking for a fun and quickish read.
THANK YOU ISAAC MARION FOR SHOWING A SHIMMER OF LIGHT IN A DARK, DESILATE FUTURE!

Spoiler: Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion

This book was a really surprising read. I had was expecting a book that I would hate because usually when I read about zombies they scare the crap out of me. And in this one, well it was scary it was a far more humorous look at them. As our narrator is a zombie. And thank goodness it was. I can’t imagine this book being written another way. I loved it! So let’s talk about the best part, the
♥Characters♥
♥R: He’s an interesting character to say the least. Even before he meets Julie the fact that he goes and gathers Senatra records and collects random things makes me smile. Oh and that he rides escalators for fun! Hilarious. I wasn’t surprised when he fell for Julie, just surprised that Perry still was around in his head just egging him on.. I think that was the most interesting part. The way their thoughts combined and he began to understand what humanity really is. Oh, and the fact that true love prevailed; I wouldn’t be myself if I didn’t love that. When we found that his kids changed back I cried. No lie. Oh and how they’re changing the world, fantastic!!!!
♥Julie: She’s had an obvious tough life, but none the less she preservers. I love that she has so much hope, and how she opens that up for people, in fact to many people who have no hope left. I was surprised to learn about how her dad was and what he changed into when things collapsed. I was also surprised when she got over Perry so quickly, but I guess if you’re with someone who constantly is saying goodbye, when it happens it isn’t such a shock. In the end she made the right choice. Yay!
♥Perry: He was quite the guy. I think that if he had been born in a different time then maybe things would have been different for him. He would have strived in our current environment where there is nothing but hope, but when he was pressed into a tough situation and had lost everything he just started to give up. And isn’t that sad?
♥M: I really hope he ended up with Nora, it’s certainly an intriguing thought. He seems like a sweet guy all in all. Lady killer… haha literally.
♥Nora: I wonder how she could hook up with Perry and then just be his friend and how Julie would ever handle that. That’s just madness in my mind but at the end of the world, I guess anything is possible….
Grigio: Before he died, I think he was already lost. Sad really.

Moments to Remember
♥Pg. 54
“’I… find things… sometimes. But we don’t… seek.’
‘Really,’ Julie says. ‘Well that’s a fucking tragedy.’ She continues to dig through my records, but her tone starts to escalate as she speaks. ‘You don’t think about new things? You don’t seek? What’s that even mean? You don’t seek what? Music? Music is life! It’s physical emotion- you can touch it! It’s neon ecto-energy sucked out of spirits and switched into sound waves for you ears to swallow. Are you telling me, what, that it’s boring? You don’t have time for it?’”

♥Pg. 109
“It frustrates and fascinates me that we’ll never know for sure, that despite the best efforts of historians and scientists and poets, there are some things we’ll just never know for sure, that despite the best efforts of historian and scientists and poets, there are some things we’ll just never know. What the first song sounded like. How it felt to see the first photograph. Who kissed the first kiss, and if it was any good.”

♥Pg. 112
“’Do you think it’s stupid?’
‘What?’
‘To fall in love.’
He pauses, the puts his walkie away. ‘What do you mean, Pear.’
‘Like… now. The way things are now. I mean everything’s so uncertain… is it stupid to waste time on stuff like that in a world like this? When everything might fall apart any minute?’
My dad looks at me for a long time. ‘When I met your mom,’ he says, ‘I asked myself that. And all we had going on back then was a few wars and recessions.’ His walkie starts crackling again. He ignores it. ‘I got nineteen years with your mom. But do you think I would’ve turned down the idea if I’d known I’d only get one year? Or a month?’ He surveys the construction, shaking his head slowly.”

♥Pg. 218
“’Want some wine? It’s an ’86 Mouton Rothschild. I’d describe it as yummy with notes of fucking delicious.’”

♥Final Line: “Because we want it.”

My Rating: 4/5

Well it’s been a while but I’m happy to be back to talk to readers about Fifty Shades Darker the second book in the Fifty Shades Trilogy. This book took me a while to read but I’m proud that I finished it. By the end, I my rating had changed many times. Honestly there were parts about this book that I didn’t like, and parts that I loved. This book is very adult in the aspects of sex. It certainly gave me a lot to think about. I must say that the characters have certainly changed from the first book. Some are stronger and others are more open to others and the readers themselves. I’ve fallen in love with many of the characters in this book and I’m certainly not ashamed of it.
THANK YOU EL JAMES FOR SHOWING THAT PEOPLE CAN CHANGE!

Spoiler: Fifty Shades Darker by EL James (Adult content!)

This book has changed leaps and bounds from the first book. Some parts I’m happy about other parts didn’t stay changed for long unfortunately. I feel like the second book in this series is so much more in depth into Christian’s life. It’s exciting to learn more about his life, but at the same time it’s scary. He is quite the interesting character. Not to mention that he whole idea in this book has changed. It’s not just classified as “fucking” anymore it’s “making love” which is great and all just not expected from the last book. But let’s get right into the

Characters
♥Christian: I think that Christian has gone through the biggest change in this book. He’s not hard and only dominant anymore. He really begins to care for Ana and by the end of the book has proposed and plans to marry her. I guess it just takes the right person sometimes to give you hope for hearts and flowers. I’m happy for him but what if his mind changes. I think that Ana does have a reason to worry.
♥Ana: Good for Ana for sticking up for herself in the beginning. But as the book goes on she transforms back to the girl she was when she was first with Christian she doesn’t stick up for herself nearly as much and that just made me upset. She can be a strong independent woman so why does she seem to have to have Christian by her side 24/7? Maybe I’m just to young to understand all this.
♥Jack: What a freaking creep! Just wanting to have sex with all his assistants. It sure makes you wonder how he kept that job so long. Thank goodness that Ana knew a bit of self defense and had someone to help her other wise she would have been trapped in a job with this creep. But I also never doubted he would try and have his revenge.
♥Dr. Flynn: I would like to know more of the secrets that Dr. Flynn knows about Christian. It is quite intriguing. As well he seems like a pleasant man who has help Christian through a lot in his life.
♥ Elena: She’s an evil little piece of work. I thought at first that maybe Ana was just being overly jealous but then by the end I realized that she thinks she’s far better for Christian and that Ana can’t possibly be what he needs. Selfish *adult word*
♥Leila: She really needs help. It must be hard to be so used up sexually and then see the person that didn’t want more with you want so much more with someone else who looks like you. I can’t even imagine and hope I never have to go through that.
♥Jose: He’s a good friend and although he obviously wants more with Ana I don’t think he will try anything with her again after that first time.
♥Mia: So energetic and fun. I can see myself being friends with her. She is probably going to have a large part in the next book what with the wedding and everything.
♥Ethan: I really hope that him and Mia get together they seem like they’re meant for each other.
♥Elliot: He’s sweet from what I can tell.
♥Kate: A true best friend. If my friend had a contract written about sexual interactions I think I would question the shit out of her as well. There would be a lot of rage.
♥Grace: To find out a dear friend was fucking your son, and on his birthday? I would have lost it.

♥Moments to Remember♥
♥Pg. 55
“’Why did that feel like a pissing contest?’ I ask Christian as he opens the car door for me.”

♥Pg. 102
“’You know, he was controlling. Some men are like that.’ He gave me a quick sideways smile.
‘Really? A controlling man, surely a mythical creature?’ I don’t think I can squeeze any more sarcasm into my response.”

♥Pg. 204
“’What color, Anastasia?’ Christian inclines his head.
‘Er… black?’ I shrug. ‘You really don’t need to do this.’
He frowns. ‘Black’s not easily seen at night.’
Oh, for heaven’s sake. I resist the temptation to roll my eyes. ‘You have a black car.’
He scowls at me.
‘Canary yellow, then.’ I shrug.
Christian makes a face- canary yellow is obviously not his thing.”

♥Pg. 300
“Are you on your own?’
‘No. There are six people staring at me right now wondering who the hell I’m talking to.’
Shit… ‘Really?’ I gasp, panicked.
‘Yes. Really. My girlfriend,’ he announces away from the phone.
Holy cow! ‘They probably all thought you were gay, you know.’
He laughs. ‘Yeah, probably.’ I hear his grin.”

♥Pg. 350
Sweetest email I’ve read to date!

♥Final Line: “His chance will come soon.”

Book Review: The Goddess Hunt by Aimee Carter

Title: The Goddess Hunt

Genre: Fantasy, Mythology, Young Adult
Pages: 69
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Year Published: 2012
First Line: “The cave wound upward through the earth, and Pollux grasped Castor’s hand as he led him across the uneven ground.”

“A vacation in Greece sounds like the perfect way for Kate Winters to spend her first sabbatical away from the Underworld… until she gets caught up in an immortal feud going back millennia. Castor and Pollux have been on the run from Zeus and Hades’ wrath for centuries, hiding from the gods who hunt them. The last person they trust is Kate, the new Queen of the Underworld. Nevertheless, she is determined to help their cause. But when it comes to dealing with immortals, Kate still has a lot to learn…”

My Rating: 4/5

This novella is only available as an ebook, I know that’s not the best way to start out a book review, but just in case you were looking for a hard cover you won’t be able to find one. Thought I’d give you guys the heads up.
So this book follows Kate through part of her summer travels. As we learned in the first book, Kate spends 6 winter month in Eden with Henry and 6 months away doing whatever she wants. And for her first time away she goes with James to Greece. That’s all I’ll give away in the book review, if you’re up for spoilers read the post below. This book was a short and easy read. I was excited to know what Kate did when she wasn’t with Henry and we got to learn so much more about the characters who are gods and goddesses. The setting was also an interesting idea. The place where these gods originated. I was hoping to learn more about Kate’s stay in Greece but I guess perhaps in the next book we will know more.
THANK YOU AIMEE CARTER FOR SHOWING THAT THE GODS AREN’T ALWAYS FAIR!

Thanks for reading,

Sidny xoxo

Spoiler: The Goddess Hunt by Aimee Carter

This book was more than I anticipated. I didn’t think there was very much that Aimee Carter could convey in 69 short pages. But she did more than enough. I think this book serves its purpose very well. We learn that the gods aren’t the best at making decisions. Just like us, sometimes they screw up. I think the setting was important and was hoping to see more of it, but most important were the characters so let’s get to it.

♥Characters♥
♥Kate: She’s still a love struck newly wed. And I think that at the beginning of this novel she thinks that the gods can do no wrong. That they are the good guys, but as the book progresses and she meets Pollux and Castor she realizes that sometimes they mess up. And there choices aren’t ones that she will always agree with. She is so sympathetic to the twins that it broke my heart to watch her struggle knowing that the reason they are still on the run is partially her husbands fault.
♥James: I’m not really rooting for him. I still like Henry better. He doesn’t really have a chance I wouldn’t think. I mean he’s sweet and everything but still I mean Henry is so… I don’t even know how to put him into words (I may have developed a crush on a fictional character).
♥Pollux: I can’t imagine having to go through life with a twin who you love more than yourself and finding out that you get to live forever but when he dies you can never see him again. He’ll just be gone. Poof. I don’t question that he broke him out of the Underworld. I feel bad that they are being chased but I think that the deal went sour mainly because of Walter, not Henry.
♥Castor: Caring and compassionate, he seems able to control his brothers emotions with a look. If I were the gods I would think that was a good thing and keep him around. Let them split the immortality. Why not. I was so ecstatic when he wasn’t taken to the Underworld.
♥Henry: The fact that he didn’t let his pride get in the way of his relationship with Kate was something that really caught my attention. It would have been so simple for him just to continue his deal with Walter and not care what Kate would think but he did. And that’s why I’m still rooting for this guy. Compassion.

♥Moments to Remember♥
♥Pg. 27
“Now is not the time to get into a pissing contest. Her very existence could be at risk if you do not tell me where she is-“

♥Final Line: “And if Walter wanted to smite me for it, then bring it on.”

Love,

Sidny xoxo

Book Review: The Fault In Our Stars by John Green

Title: The Fault In Our Stars
Author: John Green
Series/Novel: Novel
Genre: Young Adult, Romance
Pages: 313
Publisher: Dutton Books
Year Published: 2012
First Line: “Late in the winter of my seventeenth year, my mother decided I was depressed, presumably because I rarely left the house, spent quite a lot of time in bed, read the same book over Andover, ate infrequently, and devoted quite a bit of my abundant free time to thinking about death.”

“Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel’s story is about to be completely rewritten.
Insightful, bold, irreverent, and raw. The Fault In Our Stars brilliantly explores the funny, thrilling and tragic business of being alive and in love.”

My Rating: 4/5

First off a huge apology for not writing any of these in a while. It’s been a crazy past few months so, this is the first one in over a month.
Now down to the point, the book. This book was brought to me by my sister who begged me to read it. I agreed, because hello John Green, you sir are amazing! And I’ve seen so many things about this book recently. And may I say that it is a keeper.
This book explores what it is to live, and to want more from life. The characters are unusual but they capture your heart. Although I will admit that till the end of this book I would have rated this book a 3.5. It was ok as far as cancer books I’ve read but by the end, I realized it was more than just a cancer book.
This book explores far more than I can explain. Love, death, life, and youth. The idea of what it is to cease to exist. It’s a scary thing for young people to think about but something that caught my eye. John Green that was a risky move, one that certainly paid off with me.
